The term “Heroin Chic” was used to describe the look of unhealthy-looking models in the late 1990s and 2000s. The models had almost hollow looking faces, dark circles under their eyes a as well as just looking like skin and bones under their clothes reminiscing of physical results of drug use. This was extremely dangerous for the models and the audience as they the models were being looked up to as an inspiration by many. The trend of looking scarily skinny was tried to put and end to, to embrace curves and a healthy body. In recent years many fashion trends such as low-rise pants and strappy slip tops, many think that that is to blame for the term heroin chic coming back. The fact that body shapes and sizes are looked upon as a trend is also highly disturbing. Thinking that you need to look curvy one day and extremely skinny the next are dangerous and unachievable standards that should be terminated. Many influential women such as Megan Thee Stallion and Lizzo have been working with vogue to spread body positivity and awareness. During the Paris fashion week, we see Bella Hadid wearing practically nothing, as she is being spraypainted a “dress” on her body. Clothing trends coming and leaving is nothing new or dangerous, but the fact that body shape trends come and leave along with those clothing trends is deeply troubling.
